Halifax, Tuesday, January 31st – CarSharingHFX and its partner Communauto announced yesterday, on the third anniversary of the Nova Scotia carsharing organisation, their plan to increase the number of vehicles in Halifax’s fleet by at least 50% in 2012. This expansion is the result of the successful restructuring of the usage fees, introduced this summer, which was the basis of the partnership between the two organisations.
“2012 promises to be an exciting year for CarShareHFX as we will expand our fleet, launch a new visibility campaign including a promotional video as well as a new and simpler website”, announced owners Pam Cooley and Peter Zimmer. “In three years, we have reached a fleet of thirteen cars with over 650 members – and growing. Thank you to all Haligonians for their commitment and support of this alternative source of transportation in our beautiful city”, added Pam Cooley.
In 2011, the number of members of CarShareHFX increased by 60%, mainly following the drastic fee reduction which occurred in the second half of the year. In the last six months, the organisation has been in better shape, with a larger fleet (+40%) and increased usage rate (73% increase in the average hourly usage, equal to 9 hours per day; and 24% increase in the number of trips per vehicle per month).
“I want to express how proud I am to have had the opportunity to collaborate with CarShareHFX over the last year. This year was one of tremendous challenges but you have demonstrated your perseverance and your ability to stay on course even through the storm. Congratulations! I am convinced that the most interesting part is yet to come. For this, I wish you the best in the upcoming year.’ said Mr Benoît Robert, CEO of Communauto, addressing CarSharingHFX owners.
